We already know a lot about the 4-inch iPhone SE Apple is expected to unveil, but now we’re getting more insight into what might show up for the iPad.
A new report from 9to5Mac says that Apple will unveil a 9.7-inch iPad Pro on Monday and that it will have a starting price of $599. The scoop comes from Mark Gurman, a reporter with a great track record for Apple leaks.
The reports of a new, smaller iPad Pro started last month, and at Mashable, we’ve been split on the name. The device — which seemed to start off as the iPad Air 3 — has morphed into being a smaller Pro, with reports that it will support the Apple Pencil and the Smart Connector for its own Smart Keyboard.
The pricing news is significant. Since the original iPad debuted in the spring of 2010, the starting price for the 9.7-inch iPad has always been $499. Raising the price to $599 — especially in light of flatlining iPad sales — is interesting.
In fairness, 9to5Mac reports that the $599 iPad Pro will have 32GB of storage. This puts the pricing inline with the 32GB iPad Air 3. 9to5Mac also says Apple will sell a 128GB LTE-enabled 9.7-inch iPad Pro.
9to5Mac says the iPad Air 2 will remain part of the iPad lineup at its current price.
